Harlequin baby born in Lata Mangeshkar Hospital

In Nagpur the first recorded case of Harlequin Ichthyosis baby in India was reported. It happened on Sunday at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital after a pre-term baby girl was born to a young farmer couple. The r@re genetic disorder the baby’s skin. She was born with thick skin that covered her entire body and there were cr@cks in between. For nose, the pre-term baby has two holes, an inverted eye lid. She also has no ears added with a fish like mouth.
She is currently being treated in ICU and according to the doctors, a series of tests in next two days will help ascertain her entire medical condition.

Pediatrician Yash Banait said, ‘Such babies are prone to infection as their internal organs are exposed. We are keeping her skin moist by applying petroleum jelly. For now, we are not sure whether she even has eye balls.’ Sh was born at eight-month pregnancy and her 23-year-old mother and a 27-year-old farmer father both carry the mutated genes that cause this skin disorder. Harlequin disorder is lead by the ABCA12 gene mutation.
The pregn@nt mother never under went any maternity tests during pregnancy as the couple were very poor. The disorder could have been detected with in 4 moths of pregnancy.
